ABOUT ME

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Kentucky, with a practice that’s deeply rooted in self-compassion, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Clients often describe me as down-to-earth with a touch of "woo woo" because I integrate a creative and holistic approach to healing. I frequently work with perfectionists and high achievers who are seeking to break free from roles and identities that no longer serve them, guiding them toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.

From my years of experience, I’ve learned that our mental health symptoms often show up not just in our minds but in our bodies as well. In therapy, I consider how your daily habits, past experiences, sleep, nutrition, and physical activity contribute to your overall well-being. By addressing the whole person, I’ve seen my clients make fast and sustaining changes that improve their mental, emotional, and physical health.

A Little About My Professional Background:

I hold a degree in Marriage, Family and Community Counseling from California State University, Sacramento along with undergraduate degrees in Art History and Psychology from the University of Arizona. My training includes EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and certifications in Nutritional Mental Health and as a Compassion Fatigue Professional.

My career began in community mental health in Oakland, CA, before transitioning to private practice in Louisville, KY where I have been since 2015. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a teacher in Berkeley, CA. As a natural connector, I am passionate about helping clients discover resources and tools to support their growth. In 2019, I launched Mental Health Lou, a community mental wellness hub and non-profit organization that provides resources and education around mental health.

  • In individual counseling, I create a safe, supportive space where we can explore your personal challenges together. I use a combination of approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and self-compassion practices to help uncover emotions, internal barriers, and limiting beliefs. My holistic approach considers your mental, physical, and emotional health, weaving together your daily habits, past experiences, and overall well-being. I’m here to help you build resilience, discover strengths you didn’t know you had, and heal from the roles and identities that no longer serve you.

  • In couples counseling, I use the Gottman approach to help partners strengthen their relationship through improved communication, trust, and emotional connection. Together, we’ll work on understanding the patterns that create distance, navigating conflicts more effectively, and deepening your sense of intimacy. By focusing on building a solid foundation of friendship, shared meaning, and healthy communication, I help couples rediscover their connection, repair past hurts, and create lasting, positive change in their relationship. My goal is to provide you with the tools to foster a relationship that feels secure, supportive, and deeply fulfilling.

  • I provide weekly supervision for CFT students and marriage and family therapy associates as an AAMFT supervisor candidate. My approach to supervision is collaborative and supportive, helping you grow in confidence and skill as a therapist. We’ll explore case conceptualization, therapeutic interventions, and professional development, with a focus on ethical practice and reflective learning. My goal is to guide you in developing your own clinical style while ensuring you feel supported in navigating the complexities of working with individuals, couples, and families.

  • As a mental health speaker through Mental Health Lou, I engage with business professionals on topics related to mental health and wellness in the workplace. I provide practical insights on managing stress, fostering resilience, and creating a supportive work environment. My talks are designed to promote emotional well-being, improve communication, and help teams understand how mental health impacts both personal and professional success. Whether speaking at conferences, workshops, or corporate events, my goal is to inspire meaningful change and provide tools that contribute to a healthier, more balanced workplace.
